Advocacy for victims of abuse
MISSION In the midst of crisis, Christian women want to turn to their faith, church community, and to their spiritual leaders for help. However, our churches are not equipped to support women suffering from abuse. We must help them along their arduous journey to discover a God who embraces their liberation and provides for their healing. My mission is to build awareness of Domestic Violence within the church, educate congregations on how to minister to victims, and support individuals who need a listening ear as they struggle with being a victim of domestic violence.
PERSONAL STORY As a victim of Domestic Violence in my first marriage (early 1980’s), I received minimal to no support from my church/congregation. In fact, I was excommunicated for exposing the violence. I felt the aspiration to be an advocate and help other victims within the church. Suffering no broken bones or ending up in the hospital, I told myself that the abuse wasn’t that bad, and that I was ill- equipped to help others. Finally, listening to that still, small voice, God confirmed my calling in July 2005.
